A light-emitting diode (LED) is a semiconductor diode that emits incoherent narrow-spectrum light when electrically biased in the forward direction of the p-n junction.
Major advantages of LEDs: * Extremely long life span. LEDs can work continuously for more than 100,000 hours without failures and typically 50,000 hours; while fluorescent tubes typically are rated at about only 30,000 hours, and incandescent bulbs at 1,000-2,000 hours. * More than 10-50 times energy efficient, reducing operating costs by up to 90%. * Eco-friendly, no mercury and reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) output. * Little or no heat generation, safe to touch. * Withstand shocks, vibrations, frequent switching and temperature extremes.
